FAIRFIELD, Ohio (Brad Underwood) -- Everyone has dreams of what they want to be when they grow up. For some that may be an astronaut or maybe a firefighter. A local high school teacher is doing his part to give young boys the chance to realize those dreams. It's a level of access the kids have never been given. Gary Favors created the Hearts and Minds Program.
Will Smith of Finneytown is going into 8th grade and said, “The thing I remember the most was seeing Mr. Favors’ heart. I have never seen anything like before." Dr. Kevin Cochran is an interventional cardiologist with the heart institute at Mercy Health in Fairfield. From the exam room to the operating room Dr. Cochran lead the tour. But the visit was about more than just showing off all the cool technology at the hospital.
Dr. Cochran said, "Open their eyes to show them that college is possible. And then once we get them in college mentoring them through that process and then onto to medical school or nursing school."
